Steps to help you set up a goal

In this article I am going to show you the importance of setting goals for yourself and the right steps to help you set them.

Why should you set a goal in your life?

For me a goal gets me going; having inspired goals and achieving them gives me life. My actions and my life choices are dependent on the goals I have in mind. First of all, setting a goal gives you motivation. Take your career as an example. Imagine you are chasing a promotion. You have to put in the work, you have to stay the extra hours and make the effort that causes your manager to notice you. Even if you don’t get the instant gratification of being told you did a good job, you will still be motivated by your goal of one day reaching the position you set your mind to.

Goals can also help raise your self-confidence once you recognize your ability and competence in achieving the goals that you’ve set for yourself. Let’s be honest – there are some goals that are out of our reach, for which we do not have the talent or time to succeed, so set a realistic goal, even if it’s a challenging one.

Having goals is a way of success and part of finding happiness in your life. Successful women set goals and move towards them. Do you consider yourself a successful woman? There are many different kinds of goals; some you can reach tomorrow, while some you have to work towards over many years. To get started, focus on a goal that you know you can achieve that you feel enthusiastic about. Start with a positive mindset.

Try to see the big picture of what you want to do with your life. Pick one meaningful goal at a time and decide what you need to do to achieve it. Set a time frame and set your mind to it.

Now that you have your goal, write it down. Put it on your ‘’to do’’ list and give yourself reminders. Whenever I make my goals, I write them down, as this builds a powerful mindset. This is also the process I used to get started writing this blog and I have now made a passion out it.

After you have it on paper, make a plan in order to achieve your goal. Think of your abilities and try to see what can help you in your steps. If there is something that you think you cannot do, improve it! Never be afraid to try. Don’t be afraid to reach out to people around you if you think someone can help you. If not, there are books on how to do stuff and the biggest help of them all: Google!

Be prepared for obstacles that arise along the way. Things won’t always move smoothly towards your goal and sometimes you’ll take three steps forward and two steps back. Remember, when you stumble, don’t give up – get up!

Setbacks happens to me all the time. Sometimes I get very frustrated and feel like giving up. Even if I know I can reach a goal, I also know that sometimes giving up is easier. The times I do it, I always feel regret afterwards. For example, it has always been my dream to have my own successful blog that would inspire women around the world. I started one two years ago, but after two months I gave up. I started fast with no preparation and wanted quick results. The results did not come because I had not done it properly. I have always regretted that instead of trying my best I just gave up. Now I’ve started again, but this time I have learned my lesson and am prepared for both good and bad.

And finally –  be good to yourself and celebrate every step that you have completed in your process of achieving your goal.
